Edward Neville da Costa Andrade, 1887-1971 was a physicist and popular science writer and broadcaster. He began his career at University College London, where he researched into metal flow, moving to the University of Heidelberg in 1911. In 1913 he went to Manchester, where he worked with Ernest Rutherford on gamma rays. During the Great War, he served as an officer in the Royal Garrison Artillery.
